The new Hongqi HS6 Longest-Range Hybrid SUV Breaks Records, recently introduced for pre-order
The global automotive market has been rapidly shifting toward extended-range hybrids, and China is now pushing boundaries with one of the most ambitious projects to date. The new Hongqi HS6, recently introduced for pre-order, has officially entered the Guinness World Records as the longest-range hybrid SUV ever tested on public roads. This achievement instantly drew the attention of international car enthusiasts, industry analysts, and rental operators looking at new energy models that can deliver exceptional efficiency without sacrificing comfort.
The Hongqi HS6 targets a growing category of customers who want electric-driving comfort for the city and petrol-powered confidence for long-distance trips across highways and remote regions. With three available hybrid powertrains, premium interior options, and highly competitive pricing on the Chinese market, the HS6 stands out as a technologically advanced and emotionally appealing SUV that may soon influence global trends in extended-range mobility.

Hybrid system engineered for maximum travel distance
The HS6 is built around a highly efficient 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 150 hp. This engine works in combination with powerful electric motors and traction batteries that vary in capacity depending on the chosen configuration. Hongqi uses a modern multi-mode hybrid architecture allowing the SUV to switch between EV mode, series hybrid mode and parallel drive, all managed through intelligent energy-distribution software.
The base model is front-wheel-drive and combines the 1.5-liter engine with a 228-hp electric motor. It is supported by a 23.9 kWh battery, enabling the SUV to travel up to 148 km purely on electric power. When the petrol engine participates in propulsion, the total driving range reaches an outstanding 1,580 km. This configuration already makes the HS6 one of the most efficient hybrid crossovers in its class, offering long-range travel with minimal fuel consumption.
A second version relies on the same powertrain layout but replaces the battery with a larger 40 kWh pack. Electric-only driving increases significantly to 248 km, one of the highest EV-range numbers for any hybrid SUV today. The combined travel distance rises to 1,650 km, making this model the most efficient and longest-running version in the lineup. It is this configuration that helped Hongqi secure its Guinness World Record after the SUV successfully traveled 2,327.343 km from Shangri-La to Guangzhou without refueling or recharging.

The performance-focused variant adds a second electric motor
The top model goes further by introducing all-wheel drive via an additional electric motor powering the rear axle. This rear motor adds 273 hp, bringing the total system output to a level that delivers confident acceleration and makes the HS6 the sportiest version in the family. The electric-only range drops to 228 km due to higher power consumption, and the combined range reduces to 1,460 km, yet the performance benefit is clear. The top speed reaches 205 km/h, giving drivers a more dynamic feel than typical hybrid SUVs in this class.
Despite focusing on power, the AWD model retains the same hybrid philosophy: deliver long-distance capability with intelligent energy management. The system continuously adapts torque distribution, optimizes regenerative braking, and uses predictive energy-saving algorithms to stabilize consumption during high-speed cruising.
Dimensions and luggage space designed for comfort
Hongqi developed the HS6 as a spacious two-row SUV targeting premium buyers who value legroom and cargo practicality. The model measures 4,925 mm in length and offers a large 2,925 mm wheelbase. These proportions create a comfortable cabin environment, and the SUV stands out with a cargo volume that expands up to 1,977 liters when the rear seats are folded. This makes the HS6 suitable not only for everyday commutes but also for long-distance adventures, family holidays, and business travel.
Although some competitors offer three-row seating in similar dimensions, Hongqi’s decision to prioritize a two-row cabin results in improved seat comfort, more generous shoulder space, and better luggage capacity.

Premium interior technology powered by Snapdragon
Inside, the HS6 positions itself as a modern premium SUV. The central infotainment system is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P automotive chipset, known for its high-speed graphics, advanced connectivity features, and smooth multitasking capability. The digital cockpit includes two 15.6-inch displays that operate with minimal latency, offering large interactive surfaces for navigation, media, and vehicle control functions.
The audio experience is enhanced by a high-quality Dynaudio sound system, and the cabin incorporates a rich list of comfort features including three-zone climate control, ventilated and heated seats for all passengers, a panoramic glass roof, and even a built-in thermobox designed to keep beverages cool during long drives.

Pricing in China and market potential
Pricing for the Hongqi HS6 in China starts at 178,800 yuan and goes up to 228,800 yuan, equivalent to roughly 2–2.6 million rubles or USD 24,500–31,300. For a premium hybrid SUV with record-breaking efficiency, these prices are remarkably competitive. Hongqi aims to position the HS6 as a strong alternative to Japanese and Korean hybrids, while offering more advanced EV range and richer standard equipment.
The Guinness World Record achievement is expected to elevate the model’s visibility on international markets. Although Hongqi has not confirmed global export plans yet, several of its earlier models have already reached the Middle East, including the UAE. If the HS6 follows the same route, it may attract local customers who value long-distance capability for inter-emirate travel while still preferring hybrid efficiency over full EV dependency.
Relevance for UAE drivers and potential rental fleets
The UAE presents unique driving conditions where long-distance capability, heat-resistant battery systems, and reliable hybrid technology are important. A model like the Hongqi HS6 could find its place among customers who want a premium SUV without the fuel consumption of traditional petrol engines. For rental companies, the extended range reduces downtime, increases operational efficiency, and offers tourists an advanced, comfortable vehicle for exploring the Emirates.
Hongqi is continuously expanding in the Middle East, and the HS6 fits well into the region’s shift toward high-tech, low-emission mobility. Its combination of range, performance, and premium features could make it an attractive candidate for future UAE market launches.
