Xpeng GX: A New Full-Size Hybrid SUV Taking Aim at Li Auto L9 and Range Rover Styling
Chinese EV manufacturer Xpeng has officially unveiled the first images of its new flagship SUV, the Xpeng GX. This full-size crossover is positioned as a direct rival to some of the most advanced and expensive Chinese premium SUVs on the market, including Li Auto L9, Aito M9, and Zeekr 9X.
With a bold, Range Rover–inspired design, a next-generation extended-range hybrid powertrain, and ultra-fast 5C charging technology, the Xpeng GX signals the brand’s serious ambitions in the luxury SUV segment.
Exterior Design: Range Rover Influence with a Chinese Tech Twist
At first glance, the Xpeng GX clearly borrows from the visual language popularized by Range Rover. The SUV features a long, upright silhouette, pronounced wheel arches, a flat beltline, and a visually elongated rear section. This design approach emphasizes size, authority, and premium status—key expectations in the Chinese full-size SUV market.
However, Xpeng adds its own interpretation through modern lighting elements. The front end uses a split headlight layout, with slim daytime running lights positioned high and the main lighting modules integrated lower in the bumper. At the rear, instead of the traditional vertical taillights associated with Range Rover, the GX adopts a full-width LED light bar stretching across the tailgate, reinforcing a high-tech identity.
Another notable detail is the absence of a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor. Unlike many competitors, Xpeng relies on a camera- and radar-based driver assistance architecture, keeping the roofline clean and aerodynamic.

Dimensions and Platform Positioning
The Xpeng GX is a true full-size SUV. According to preliminary information, its length exceeds 5.2 meters, placing it squarely in the same size class as the Li Auto L9 and Aito M9. This generous footprint allows for a spacious cabin, improved ride comfort, and a commanding road presence—important factors for family buyers and executive users alike.
The long wheelbase also supports a premium suspension setup and advanced chassis electronics, which Xpeng is expected to tune for both comfort and high-speed stability on highways.
Powertrain: Extended-Range Hybrid with 5C Fast Charging
One of the most important technical highlights of the Xpeng GX is its extended-range hybrid system. Unlike conventional plug-in hybrids, this setup uses the internal combustion engine solely as a generator. The wheels are driven entirely by electric motors, delivering smooth acceleration and EV-like driving characteristics.
The battery supports 5C fast charging technology, capable of accepting charging power of up to 400 kW. This is an exceptionally high figure for a hybrid SUV and places the GX close to cutting-edge pure EVs in terms of charging performance.
Thanks to this system, the total driving range is expected to exceed 1,000 kilometers, combining electric driving with the flexibility of a fuel-powered generator. For long-distance travel across China or the Middle East, this configuration offers a major practical advantage.

Interior and Technology Focus
While Xpeng has not yet released official interior images, early information suggests a six-seat cabin layout with a strong emphasis on digital interaction and comfort. The centerpiece of the interior will be an advanced augmented reality head-up display. This AR-HUD is designed to replace the traditional instrument cluster entirely, projecting driving information, navigation cues, and safety alerts directly onto the windshield.
This approach aligns with Xpeng’s strategy of creating software-defined vehicles, where the user experience is shaped more by digital interfaces than by physical controls. The absence of a conventional dashboard display also contributes to a cleaner, more minimalist cabin design.
Premium materials, individual rear seats, and advanced climate and infotainment systems are expected, positioning the GX firmly in the luxury category.
Market Position and Expected Price
The official debut of the Xpeng GX is expected to take place at the Beijing Auto Show at the end of April. Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but industry analysts estimate a starting price above 400,000 yuan, which is roughly 57,650 US dollars.
This pricing places the GX directly against established premium hybrid SUVs and signals Xpeng’s intention to move upmarket, competing not only on technology but also on perceived luxury and brand value.

Xpeng’s Broader Hybrid Strategy
The GX is not an isolated project. Earlier, Xpeng announced the upcoming Xpeng G7, another extended-range SUV that promises a record-breaking total range of 1,704 kilometers. This clearly indicates that Xpeng views hybrid technology as a key bridge between today’s EV infrastructure and future fully electric mobility.
By combining long range, ultra-fast charging, and advanced software, Xpeng aims to address range anxiety while maintaining the driving experience expected from electric vehicles.
Relevance for the UAE and Premium Rental Market
Full-size luxury SUVs with hybrid powertrains are gaining attention in the UAE due to fuel efficiency, comfort, and long-distance usability. Models like the Li Auto L9 have already sparked interest among premium car enthusiasts and rental clients. The Xpeng GX, with its Range Rover–style design and advanced charging capabilities, could become a strong candidate for luxury car rental fleets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi once officially launched in international markets.
