Volkswagen Reveals the Large Electric Sedan ID.Unyx 07 for 2026
Volkswagen has officially lifted the veil on its new large electric sedan, the ID.Unyx 07. The model is part of the rapidly expanding ID.Unyx family, developed specifically for the Chinese market and based on a new jointly engineered platform with Xpeng. According to leaked images from a closed presentation published by Chinese media, the ID.Unyx 07 is positioned below the previously revealed ID.Unyx 08 crossover and is scheduled to enter the market in 2026.
This model plays a strategic role for Volkswagen in China, targeting the highly competitive mid size and upper mid size electric sedan segment where range, digital features and design identity are critical for success.

Platform and positioning in the ID.Unyx lineup
The ID.Unyx 07 is built on a next generation electric architecture co developed by Volkswagen and Xpeng. This platform is designed with a strong focus on software integration, over the air updates and advanced driver assistance systems tailored to Chinese customer preferences.
Within the ID.Unyx family, the new sedan sits below the larger ID.Unyx 08 crossover and continues the design and technical philosophy introduced earlier by the ID.Unyx 06 coupe style crossover. The numeric index 07 clearly indicates its market positioning and helps differentiate the model range in a growing EV portfolio.

Exterior design and dimensions
Visually, the Volkswagen ID.Unyx 07 evolves the styling language introduced by the ID.Unyx 06. The sedan features a similar lighting signature with slim LED headlights and a continuous light bar across the front, creating a recognizable electric identity. Compared to the crossover, the 07 adopts more aggressive bumpers, a lower stance and a sleeker roofline, emphasizing its sedan character.
Large wheels up to 20 inches fill the arches, while a bold black cladding runs around the lower perimeter of the body, adding a sporty contrast to the clean surfaces.
The official dimensions underline its presence in the large sedan segment. The ID.Unyx 07 measures 4853 mm in length, 1852 mm in width and 1566 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2826 mm. For comparison, the popular Toyota Camry is slightly longer overall but offers a nearly identical wheelbase, highlighting Volkswagen’s focus on maximizing interior space.

Interior expectations and technology
Although the interior has not yet been officially revealed, expectations are high given the involvement of Xpeng in the platform development. The cabin is likely to feature a minimalist layout with large digital displays, a fully digital instrument cluster and an advanced infotainment system optimized for Chinese apps and ecosystems.
Volkswagen is expected to introduce improved voice control, enhanced connectivity and frequent software updates, areas where Chinese EV brands traditionally remind strong. Material quality and ambient lighting will likely position the ID.Unyx 07 above mass market EVs while remaining competitive in pricing.

Powertrain and battery specifications
According to preliminary data, the Volkswagen ID.Unyx 07 will share its main powertrain configuration with the ID.Unyx 06. The sedan is expected to use a single electric motor producing 231 horsepower, delivering smooth acceleration suitable for daily urban and highway driving.
Energy is supplied by a 59.9 kWh traction battery, which should provide a driving range of up to 558 kilometers on the Chinese CLTC cycle. This range places
the ID.Unyx 07 firmly among competitive electric sedans in its class, especially considering its size and performance balance.
Charging specifications have not yet been disclosed, but fast charging capability is expected to be standard, allowing the battery to recover a significant portion of range in a short time.
Relationship to the ID.Unyx 08 crossover
At the end of December, Volkswagen also revealed additional technical details about the larger ID.Unyx 08. That model will offer two battery options, with the long range version capable of traveling up to 730 kilometers on a single charge.
While the ID.Unyx 07 does not reach those figures, it is designed to appeal to buyers who prioritize a lower silhouette, sedan driving dynamics and slightly more accessible pricing, without sacrificing modern electric performance and digital features.

Market outlook and launch timeline
Volkswagen has not yet announced an exact start of sales date, but the ID.Unyx 07 is expected to enter the Chinese market in 2026. The timing aligns with Volkswagen’s broader strategy to regain momentum in China by introducing models developed specifically for local tastes and expectations rather than global adaptations.
Given the intense competition from domestic brands, the success of the ID.Unyx 07 will depend not only on hardware specifications but also on software quality, pricing strategy and the overall ownership experience.
Why the ID.Unyx 07 matters for Volkswagen
The Volkswagen ID.Unyx 07 is more than just another electric sedan. It represents a shift in how Volkswagen approaches product development in China, relying on local partnerships, flexible platforms and faster innovation cycles.
If executed well, the ID.Unyx 07 could become a key pillar in Volkswagen’s electric lineup and help the brand strengthen its position in the world’s largest EV market.
