Skoda Designer Reimagines the Classic 110 R Coupe as a Futuristic Electric Sports Car
Skoda has once again turned to its heritage to inspire modern creativity. In a new digital project, designer Richard Švec unveiled his interpretation of the classic Skoda 110 R, a two-door coupe produced from 1970 to 1980. The original 110 R was often referred to as the “Czech Porsche” for its sporty character and racing potential. Švec’s modern version reimagines this legendary car as a fully electric sports coupe designed for today’s young and performance-oriented drivers.
Although this project will remain a digital study with no production plans, it demonstrates how Skoda’s DNA can evolve to meet the expectations of the new electric era.

Contemporary Styling Without Retro Clichés
Unlike many modern reinterpretations of classics, this concept does not try to mimic vintage styling. Instead, it offers a bold, contemporary vision. The body is far more angular than the original’s smooth silhouette, with sharp surfaces and proportions that highlight its athletic stance. The front and rear design integrate Skoda’s new Tech Loop styling element, first presented on the Vision O concept.
Švec also departed from the round headlights of the original 110 R, opting instead for futuristic LED light strips. Darkened details, massive wheels with a central locking nut, and a built-in roll cage reinforce the impression of a serious sports car rather than a nostalgic tribute.

An Electric Sports Coupe for Everyday Use
The reinterpretation is imagined as a compact electric sports car that could serve both as a daily driver and a weekend track toy. While there are no official specifications, the overall design suggests a powertrain based on Skoda’s MEB architecture, potentially with one or two motors delivering 300 to 400 horsepower. Side air intakes not only add to the aggressive design but also hint at battery cooling solutions, an echo of the side vents on the original 110 R and the hood openings of the rally-ready 130 RS.
The lightweight appearance, integrated safety structure, and aerodynamic details clearly place the car in the realm of performance-oriented EVs. Even though the interior has not been shown, it is easy to imagine a minimalist, driver-focused cockpit with racing seats, digital displays, and sustainable materials to match Skoda’s electrification goals.

Echoes of the 110 R and 130 RS
The link to history is subtle but deliberate. The 110 R was not just a stylish coupe; it provided the basis for the Skoda 130 RS, one of the most successful rally cars of its era. Victories in the Monte Carlo Rally of 1977 cemented its reputation on the international stage. The new concept acknowledges that legacy through its cooling intakes, motorsport roll cage, and purposeful stance. It is not a nostalgic copy but rather a tribute to the spirit of lightweight, affordable sports cars that defined an important chapter in Skoda’s history.

A Broader Digital Revival
This modern 110 R is part of a series of creative projects where Skoda’s designers revisit classic models and reinterpret them for the future. Earlier, Švec presented a digital reimagining of the Felicia Fun, a quirky leisure pickup from the late 1990s. These projects do not aim to reach production but instead explore new design directions and connect younger audiences with the brand’s heritage.

The Future of Skoda and Sports Cars
For now, Skoda’s EV strategy is focused on mass-market models such as crossovers, compact hatchbacks, and family-oriented vehicles. Yet the 110 R reinterpretation proves that there is space for imagination within the brand. Even though a small electric sports coupe may not appear in showrooms soon, such digital studies highlight the emotional side of electrification.
If demand for affordable electric sports cars grows, Skoda could one day bring such a vehicle to life, just as other manufacturers are beginning to experiment with compact EV roadsters and coupes. The digital 110 R demonstrates that performance and sustainability can go hand in hand, while also honoring motorsport traditions.
