The All-New Kia Seltos Grows in Size and Embraces Hybrid Power: What to Expect in 2026

The All-New Kia Seltos Grows in Size and Embraces Hybrid Power: What to Expect in 2026

The Kia Seltos enters a new generation with a noticeably more mature presence, a redesigned exterior that echoes the brand’s latest electric models, and for the first time a hybrid powertrain. As one of Kia’s most globally successful compact crossovers, the new Seltos is set to play a key role in regions such as Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and India. With a significant increase in dimensions, upgraded onboard technologies and a more diverse engine lineup, it is positioned closer to the larger Kia Sportage while keeping its reputation for efficiency and everyday usability.

For the UAE market, where compact SUVs remain among the top choices for rental fleets and private ownership alike, the new Seltos offers qualities that resonate strongly with drivers who want a modern, tech-forward and fuel-efficient compact crossover.

Kia has deliberately grown the physical footprint of the model to achieve a more premium stance and better interior usability. The new generation measures 4430 mm in length, 1830 mm in width and 1600 mm in height, sitting on a longer 2690-mm wheelbase. Compared to the outgoing model, the overall length increases by around 50 mm, while the wheelbase stretches by an additional 60 mm.

This improvement translates not only into more stable highway behaviour but also into enhanced legroom and a larger cargo compartment. The boot now accommodates approximately 536 litres, which is almost 100 litres more than before. For Dubai and Abu Dhabi travellers who carry luggage or sports equipment, the added practicality makes the crossover even more attractive as a rental option.

Updated Powertrains Including a Long-Awaited Hybrid

The engine range starts with a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol unit producing 149 hp, known for its smoothness and reliability. Above it sits a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, which will be offered in two output levels: 180 hp and a more performance-oriented 193 hp depending on the market. Transmission choices vary from a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to an eight-speed automatic.

All-wheel drive will remain available, and this configuration introduces a multi-link rear suspension that noticeably improves comfort and stability. For regions with mixed road conditions, including weekend desert trips in the UAE, this option will be especially appealing.

The most anticipated addition, however, is the hybrid powertrain. Kia has not yet disclosed full technical details but confirmed that the system will feature an advanced regenerative-braking strategy that significantly boosts urban efficiency. This hybrid variant is expected in 2026 and will likely share components with Kia’s global hybrid architecture already used in models such as the Niro and Sportage. A hybrid Seltos could become one of the most economical compact crossovers available for fleet operators and individual renters.

The new design direction draws heavily from Kia’s electric portfolio, especially the EV5. The front fascia features vertical daytime running lights, a larger and more structured grille, and a more sculpted bumper. Along the sides, subtle triangular contours appear on the doors, adding tension to the body surfaces.

The rear showcases a bold reinterpretation of the C-pillars with EV5-style geometry and a modern light signature. Kia will again offer the GT-Line for drivers seeking a more dynamic appearance and the X-Line for those who prefer a rugged, adventure-oriented visual theme. Both trims receive exclusive design touches, including unique wheel designs and contrasting exterior details.

A Modern Cabin with Premium Technology

The interior of the new Seltos aligns closely with that of Kia’s most recent global models. Drivers are greeted by a redesigned dashboard and a wide curved display that connects a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. This dual-screen approach creates a panoramic visual interface that enhances navigation, media and vehicle-settings visibility.

The centre console also borrows styling cues from higher-segment Kia models, including an updated climate-control interface. Interestingly, the gear selector remains a traditional lever rather than a rotary controller, chosen for ergonomic familiarity.

The equipment package becomes richer as well. Depending on the trim, owners can expect a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and premium audio options from Bose or Harman Kardon. Safety and convenience systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring and a suite of semi-autonomous driving functions, making the Seltos one of the most technologically advanced crossovers in its class.

A Global Model Positioned for Strong Demand

Kia plans to begin global sales of the new Seltos in 2025, followed by the hybrid launch in 2026. Given its size increase, modernised design and competitive powertrain range, the model is expected to appeal to a broad audience, from everyday commuters and young families to travellers seeking a comfortable rental crossover for city and road-trip use.

For the UAE rental market specifically, the new Seltos stands out as a balanced and highly efficient compact SUV that fits perfectly between the Kia Sonet and Sportage. With its improved practicality, new technology and the upcoming hybrid powertrain, it is set to become one of the most appealing value-driven choices in its category.
