Capricorn 01 Zagato: The €3 Million Analog Supercar Built by Race Engineers

The world of high-end performance cars just welcomed a new player: Capricorn 01 Zagato, a hand-built, track-inspired supercar that blends German engineering precision with Italian design flair.

Developed by Capricorn Group, a company best known for building components for Formula 1 and endurance racing, the 01 Zagato marks their debut as a full-fledged automaker. True to its racing DNA, this car is designed to be as analog as possible, featuring a manual gearbox, minimal driver aids, and a completely digital-free cockpit.

Only 19 units will ever be produced, each priced at around €3 million.

At its core, the Capricorn 01 Zagato uses a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis with a fully carbon body for maximum stiffness and lightness. The suspension features double wishbones mounted on subframes, combined with Bilstein components, Brembo brakes, and 21-inch wheels available in either forged aluminum or carbon fiber.

Weighing just 1,227 kilograms, the supercar delivers an exceptional power-to-weight ratio. With its aerodynamic efficiency, the estimated top speed reaches 350 km/h.

Under the sculpted hood sits a 5.2-liter twin-supercharged V8 from Ford. It produces 900 horsepower and 1,127 Nm of torque, sending all power to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission by Cima, the same supplier for Koenigsegg and Pagani.

While official performance figures are not disclosed, the 01 Zagato is expected to rival analog legends such as the Pagani Zonda and Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro in terms of raw driving engagement.

The design was created by Zagato, the legendary Italian coachbuilder famous for timeless automotive art. The 01 Zagato’s body features clean, uninterrupted lines and no external aerodynamic add-ons like large wings or splitters.

Instead, the car’s shape itself generates enough downforce to maintain stability at high speeds. Early previews also showed gullwing doors, adding a dramatic touch to its minimalist profile.

A digital-free interior for true connection

Inside, the 01 Zagato follows a philosophy that is nearly extinct in today’s hypercar world. The cockpit has no screens or touch controls, focusing entirely on mechanical switches, levers, and analog gauges with a vintage aesthetic.

The seats are fixed directly to the chassis, while the steering column, pedals, and gear lever are all adjustable to suit the driver. The gear lever can even slide 75 millimeters back and forth for perfect reach.

To preserve the analog character, the steering assistance operates only at parking speeds, giving the driver pure feedback on the open road. Electronic aids are kept to an absolute minimum.

Exclusivity with a purpose

Production is limited to 19 units, a symbolic reference to Zagato’s founding year, 1919. Capricorn claims it has the capability to produce up to 200 bespoke vehicles per year, although each one will remain highly individualized and hand-built.

This collaboration between Capricorn and Zagato reflects a growing trend among boutique automakers: merging race-derived technology with timeless design and authentic driver engagement.

In an age dominated by electrification and digital interfaces, the Capricorn 01 Zagato stands as a reminder of why pure driving still matters. It celebrates mechanical craftsmanship, offering a direct connection between the driver and the machine.

At €3 million, the 01 Zagato is more than a car; it is a statement about passion, precision, and the art of driving.
