Jetour G700 Taklimakan Rally Edition: The Extreme Off Road SUV The World Has Been Waiting For

Jetour used the Guangzhou Auto Show to unveil one of its most extreme vehicles to date: the Zongheng G700 Taklimakan Rally Edition. Known worldwide for its spectacular crossing of the Yangtze River, the G700 already became a symbol of Chinese off road engineering. Now the brand has taken the idea further by preparing a rally inspired variant designed to withstand desert, dunes, rocks and long distance competition conditions. In China the model is already available for order, while its export plans remain undisclosed. With Russia expecting the regular G700 in 2026, the Rally Edition has generated interest far beyond the domestic market.

Exterior upgrades for real motorsport endurance

The Taklimakan Rally Edition looks noticeably more aggressive compared to the standard G700. The body receives a special livery styled after professional rally teams. Both bumpers are redesigned to improve approach and departure geometry, while the grille is made unique for this version. Jetour also fitted exclusive 18 inch wheels with mud terrain tyres that were tested during multiple off road competitions.

The SUV uses a roof mounted spoiler, external tow hooks and a towing hitch. The spare wheel remains mounted externally, but without the protective casing found on the standard car. This configuration is lighter and allows quicker access during competition. The suspension is one of the core upgrades: the Taklimakan Rally Edition uses newly developed adjustable dampers engineered for high speed off road driving. Jetour emphasises that the tyres and dampers have undergone extended trials in harsh rally conditions, ensuring durability and heat resistance.

Underbody protection made for extreme routes

Another highlight of this version is its reinforced underbody. A 5 millimetre aluminium magnesium alloy skid plate protects crucial components. According to the manufacturer, this material offers up to 500 percent better corrosion resistance compared to regular steel and withstands heavy impacts when driving over stones and uneven surfaces. The G700 was initially designed for serious off road work, but the Rally Edition pushes the envelope in terms of reliability and ability to survive desert style punishment.

Interior remains familiar

Inside, the rally variant stays close to the original G700 concept. The cabin of the standard version is already spacious and premium oriented, with digital instrumentation and a large central interface. Jetour decided to preserve the comfort and high tech design instead of stripping the car for weight savings. This philosophy reflects the nature of the model. It is a rally inspired SUV for daily use rather than a pure racing prototype. Buyers receive extra capability without losing convenience, refinement or passenger comfort.

Powertrain and hybrid system

The Taklimakan Rally Edition retains the advanced hybrid architecture of the regular G700. The dual motor system produces a combined output of 761 hp, ensuring instant torque delivery on any surface. The hybrid setup combines electric power with a combustion engine, enabling both strong acceleration and extended cruising range.

While the peak output remains unchanged, Jetour confirms that the hybrid system received optimisation updates to improve power delivery, energy management and thermal stability under high load. Rally style operation requires consistent torque output even during long durations of full throttle driving across sand or gravel. This optimisation aims to keep performance stable.

Dimensions and capability overview

The base G700 already belongs to the segment of large, full size off road SUVs. Its presence on the road is significant, and its body on frame architecture is engineered for challenging terrain. Although Jetour has not altered the fundamental dimensions for the Rally Edition, the additional equipment, upgraded suspension and improved tyres extend its capability envelope.

Ground clearance rises slightly thanks to the new shock absorbers and mud tyres. Approach and departure angles also improve due to the new bumpers. Combined with the robust hybrid powertrain, these enhancements position the Taklimakan Rally Edition as one of the strongest off road proposals among Chinese SUVs.

Pricing and market expectations

In China, the G700 Taklimakan Rally Edition is priced between 334 900 and 354 900 yuan, which corresponds to roughly the same range as the entry trims of the regular G700. Jetour’s pricing strategy hints at the intention to make the rally variant an attractive alternative rather than a niche product.

International pricing remains unknown. The standard G700 is expected to reach the Russian market in 2026, which means the Rally Edition could follow if the brand decides to expand the model line. The growing popularity of rugged SUVs globally increases the chances that Jetour will consider select international markets for this version.

Relevance for the UAE market and car rental trends

The UAE remains one of the strongest markets worldwide for powerful SUVs, desert capable vehicles and adventure oriented models. While Jetour has not yet announced availability in the Middle East, the G700 Taklimakan Rally Edition aligns perfectly with regional preferences. Tourists and residents often look for vehicles capable of handling dunes, mountain routes and long road trips.

For the rental industry in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the arrival of such a model would expand the portfolio of off road ready hybrids. A high power hybrid SUV suitable for dunes could complement existing favourites like Toyota Land Cruiser, Nissan Patrol and Ford Bronco. If Jetour enters the market with competitive pricing, the Rally Edition could become a popular choice for travellers who want a bold and capable adventure vehicle.
