The All-New Jeep Cherokee: Bigger, More Powerful, and Equipped with Three Motors

The Jeep Cherokee has returned to the market with its sixth generation, bringing with it a complete transformation in design, technology, and performance. After a short hiatus, the legendary mid-size SUV is back in Jeep’s lineup, now larger, more powerful, and far more advanced. The new Cherokee is launching in the U.S. first, where it will compete against popular hybrid SUVs such as the Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage. However, Jeep has priced the model slightly above its Asian rivals, betting on brand loyalty and unique off-road DNA.

Dimensions and Exterior Design

Dimensions and Exterior Design

The 2025 Jeep Cherokee has grown in size compared to its predecessor. The SUV now measures 4,778 mm in length, 2,123 mm in width, and 1,715 mm in height, riding on a 2,870 mm wheelbase. This makes the Cherokee not only roomier inside but also more imposing on the road.

The SUV’s proportions have shifted noticeably, with a longer wheelbase adding more than 150 mm of extra cabin space. The cargo area has also seen a dramatic improvement, offering 952 liters of standard capacity and up to 1,934 liters with seats folded—almost 30% more than before.

The exterior styling has been completely redesigned. The new Cherokee features a boxier silhouette, pronounced wheel arches, a bold protective body kit, and alloy wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches. The iconic seven-slot Jeep grille is still present but modernized with sharper lines. Its rugged presence is complemented by angular LED headlights and slim taillamps, emphasizing a modern yet muscular aesthetic.

Off-Road Capability

Off-Road Capability

Although the standard versions are aimed at families and urban drivers, Jeep has not forgotten its off-road heritage. The new Cherokee comes with all-wheel drive as standard, offering four drive modes—Normal, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Eco. Ground clearance exceeds 200 mm, while approach and departure angles stand at 19.6° and 29.4°, respectively.

Later, Jeep plans to introduce a Trailhawk version, which will bring improved geometry for off-road driving, upgraded suspension, and possibly a more advanced four-wheel-drive system.

Hybrid Powertrain with Three Motors

Under the hood, the Cherokee debuts with a unique hybrid setup that combines:

  • A 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine,
  • Two electric motors,
  • A compact 1.08 kWh battery.

Together, the system delivers 213 horsepower (hp) and 312 Nm of torque. Performance figures include 0–60 mph (96 km/h) in 8.3 seconds and a top speed that should comfortably exceed 180 km/h.

Despite the small battery capacity, which does not allow for plug-in charging, the Cherokee offers impressive fuel efficiency at 6.3 liters per 100 km in combined driving, and a total driving range of over 800 km. The battery assists mostly during acceleration and low-speed maneuvers but does not provide full-electric driving capability.

Step inside, and the Cherokee feels like a smaller sibling of the Wagoneer S. Jeep has adopted a minimalist, high-tech layout, with most physical buttons removed in favor of touchscreen controls. However, a separate panel for climate functions remains, keeping practicality intact.

Interior highlights include:

  • A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central infotainment display,
  • Premium Alpine audio system,
  • Heated and ventilated front seats,
  • A digital rear-view mirror,
  • Eco-friendly upholstery made from recycled materials.

The steering wheel design is unconventional, reflecting Jeep’s shift toward modern aesthetics, while the increased cabin dimensions ensure more comfort for both front and rear passengers.

Pricing and Market Positioning

Pricing and Market Positioning

The new Jeep Cherokee will reach U.S. dealerships in late 2025, starting with higher trims, while entry-level models are expected in early 2026. Pricing has been set between $38,990 and $47,990.

This positions the Cherokee above direct competitors like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Kia Sportage Hybrid, and Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, which offer slightly higher horsepower at lower prices. Jeep, however, is counting on its iconic brand image, superior off-road credentials, and unique design to justify the premium.

While the new Cherokee has debuted in the U.S., it is very likely to arrive in global markets, including the UAE, in the following years. The SUV’s blend of fuel efficiency, space, and off-road readiness makes it attractive for Dubai and Abu Dhabi drivers who want both urban comfort and desert adventure.

However, its higher price point compared to Asian rivals may push buyers in the UAE to consider leasing or renting instead of outright purchase. Renting a Jeep Cherokee can be an ideal option for tourists and residents alike who want to experience the Jeep lifestyle without long-term commitments.
